The file extension is set under the protocol setup, under 'Filenames'. Note that you do not need to type in the file extesion on the controller. Try with simple file names such as 1234.nc to start with. I cannot remember the steps off hand but you will want to specify file name on the contoroller (so that DNC-Max knows what to send) before you press the DNC button.
